Manny Pacquiao earned an unanimous decision over Sugar Shane Mosley on Saturday night, retaining his WBO welterweight title with his 14th consecutive victory.

Pacquiao (54-3-2) didn’t get the knockout he sought, but the Filipino Congressman kept his spot as boxing’s top pound-for-pound fighter, methodically beating Mosley (46-7-1) at the MGM Grand Garden.

The eight-division champion knocked down Mosley with a right-left combination midway through the third round, just the third knockdown of Mosley’s decorated 18-year career.

The 39-year-old Mosley was credited with a knockdown in the 10th round when he appeared to push Pacquiao while the champion threw a wild punch.

Pacquiao finished with ferocity despite scattered boos, keeping Mosley winless in three fights.

Geronimo! Osama Virus Out To Terrorize

Computer security experts warned on Monday that online scammers have already started to exploit the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to spread malware.

“Watch out for the links you’re likely to come across in email or on social networking sites offering you additional coverage of this newsworthy event,” Paul Ducklin of computer security firm Sophos said in a blog post.

“Many of the links you see will be perfectly legitimate links,” Ducklin said. “But at least some are almost certain to be dodgy links, deliberately distributed to trick you into hostile Internet territory.”

By late Monday, researchers at US computer security firm McAfee were seeing email messages as well as updates at social network Facebook and microblogging service Twitter baited with promises of pictures or news of bin Laden.

“I suppose this was just inevitable,” David Marcus of McAfee said in an online message.

“The reported death of Osama bin Laden is just too good a lure for cyber criminals and scammers to pass up.”

Cyber crooks were using “expected lures” in messages to dupe people into clicking on links booby-trapped with malicious software designed to steal data from or take control of infected computers, according to Marcus.

Ploys included a bogus promise of a look at a video debunking reports of his killing by showing the 9/11 mastermind holding up a newspaper with today’s date, McAfee reported.

Nokia Goes Microsoft

In a most likely move to ditch its ancient and much-criticized Symbian operating system, Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop (left) and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that Nokia has teamed up with Microsoft to create smartphones catering to Microsoft's Windows Phone software.

Both Nokia and Microsfot are hoping to revive their fortunes in a market where they once thrived in but have struggled to keep up with.

Although Nokia remains the mobile industry's number one firm, it's market share has dropped dramatically since the introduction of the iPhone and Android operating systems. While Microsoft has released a promising smartphone OS, it hasn't really been supported by the major phone makers.

Mr Elop said: 'Today, developers, operators and consumers want compelling mobile products, which include not only the device, but the software, services, applications and customer support that make a great experience.'

Nokia, which claims 1.3billion daily users of its devices, said it hopes the 'broad, strategic partnership' with Microsoft will lead to capturing the next billion users to join the Internet in developing growth markets.

The company said that it will also announce new leadership team and organizational structure 'with a clear focus on speed, results and accountability'.

'Nokia is at a critical juncture, where significant change is necessary and inevitable in our journey forward,' Mr Elop said, adding that the company was aiming at 'regaining our smart phone leadership, reinforcing our mobile device platform and realising our investments in the future'.

[weeklyworldnews.com] PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.

“After March 15th the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business.”

Zuckerberg said that the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.

“I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

Some Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news.

“What am I going to do without Facebook?” said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. “My life revolves around it. I’m on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time?”

However, parents across the country have been experiencing a long anticipated sense of relief.

“I’m glad the Facebook nightmare is over,” said Jon Guttari, a single parent from Detroit. “Now my teenager’s face won’t be glued to a computer screen all day. Maybe I can even have a conversation with her.”

Those in the financial circuit are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion.

But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He says he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe.

“I don’t care about the money,” said Zuckerberg. “I just want my old life back.”

The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased.

Anonymous' Operation Payback Brings Down MasterCard and Visa

A computer hacker group with at least 5000 members are believed to have sent MasterCard and Visa into meltdown as payback for cutting of payments to the WikiLeaks website.

The hacktivists called "Anonymous" also targeted PayPal, Amazon, a Swiss bank, brought down the Swedish government's website and are now after US presidential hopeful Sarah Palin's personal credit card account.

Yesterday, a six-hour stoppage on the Mastercard secure code system is thought to have affected hundreds of thousands of shoppers worldwide and highlighted how vulnerable the world’s computer systems are to attack.

The ‘distributed denial of service’ (DDoS) attack involved around 2,000 computers bombarding the website’s host computers with requests for information, causing them to crash.

A spokesman for Anonymous, calling himself ‘Coldblood’, a 22-year-old computer programmer based in London, said: ‘Websites that are bowing down to government pressure have become targets.

'As an organisation we have always taken a strong stance on censorship and freedom of expression on the internet and come out against those who seek to destroy it by any means.

‘We feel that WikiLeaks has become more than just about leaking of documents, it has become a war ground, the people versus the government.

‘The idea is not to wipe them off but to give the companies a wake-up call.’

In a further communique online, Anonymous warned: ‘We will fire at anything or anyone that tries to censor WikiLeaks, including multibillion-dollar companies such as PayPal.’

The spokesman added that the group’s intention ‘was to be a force for chaotic good’.

DDoS attacks, which are illegal in the UK, involve overloading a website with high numbers of requests so it stops working.

Anonymous, which openly admits to using DDoS tactics, wrote on its website: 'While we don't have much of an affiliation with WikiLeaks, we fight for the same reasons. We want transparency and we counter censorship.

'This is why we intend to utilise our resources to raise awareness, attack those against and support those who are helping lead our world to freedom and democracy.

'We will find and will attack those who stand against WikiLeaks and we will support WikiLeaks in everything they need.'

The group's Facebook site, which had attracted more than one million users, was taken offline by the company for violating its terms of use.

The microblogging site Twitter, source of much WikiLeaks support, could become the next target for hackers after Anonymous posted a statement claiming: 'Twitter you're next for censoring WikiLeaks discussion.'

Some supporters accuse Twitter of preventing the term 'WikiLeaks' from appearing on the site's popular trending topics, a claim that Twitter has denied.

The hackers have pledged an 'infowar' on companies that have withdrawn support from WikiLeaks during the past week.

As well as DDoS attacks, Anonymous is helping to create hundreds of mirror sites for WikiLeaks, allowing users to continue to access the website's content via a different server.

WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, 39, has been remanded in custody over claims that he sexually assaulted two Swedish women.

The websites of the Swedish Prosecutor and the lawyer representing the women were attacked yesterday.

Other websites targeted included those of U.S. senator Joe Lieberman, an outspoken critic of WikiLeaks, and Sarah Palin, who said Assange should be hunted like a terrorist.

Reason Why Facebook Was Blocked In Saudi Arabia

In May of 2010, the Communications and Informations Technology Commission (CITC) of Saudi Arabia blocked a controversial Facebook page that attacked the Kingdom's religion. It seems to be happening again, and, in a much larger scale.

Today, Facebook users were surprised to find out they could not access their accounts and instead were greeted with the ugly green screen saying the site could not be accessed. The reasons behind this could be as the same above, a Facebook fan/community page attacking Saudi Arabia's main religion and, upon closer inspection of the Facebook block URL, indicates pornography as also a reason for the ban.

While bloggers and netizens provided work-arounds to access Facebook 'partial' blockage, the
possibility remains that Facebook as a whole could be banned permanently in Saudi Arabia which has been the clamor of it's religious leaders claiming the site has been a cause of division among its members. Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam and religious leaders have a powerful influence over policy making and social norms.

An official with Saudi Arabia's communications authority, speaking on  condition of anonymity, said that CITC blocked Facebook because Facebook's content had "crossed a line" with the kingdom's conservative morals, but that the Facebook blocking the site was a temporary measure.

On the other hand, Facebook has been a way of communication for expatriates in Saudi Arabia, bringing people and the world closer--at least virtually--to the desert kindom of Saudi Arabia.

Banning or blocking Facebook is a choice the Saudi government can make, but will it really make a difference considering Facebook is NOT the whole Internet?

My Encounter With The iPad

Just 'received' an iPad--specifically the 32Gb with 3G version--for review. If you're reading this, then you're probably still wondering whether you should dole out $499 or more for this piece of Apple ingenuity.

In my brief encounter with the iPad, I hope to tell you my impressions on the iPad. After reading this, I hope you'll have a better idea of what the iPad brings to the table and if you should make the decision to purchase one. Comments for this article are most welcome!

I. First-hand Impressions.

The iPad is sleek and beautiful to look at and touch. The interface was fast and responsive as usual with no lag and applications opened seamlessly.

The display is something to behold. With a resolution of 1024X768, the interface, pictures, videos, everything looks sharp and colorful. Even in direct sunlight and a good amount of shadows and reflections, the iPad's display did quite OK especially when viewing an image or video with bright colors.

In the 7 days that I messed around with the iPad, playing games and videos, reading some Hardy Boys e-books, so far the 7-inch display hasn't strained my eyes, but my hands have been from all the zooming in and out.

The audio quality on the iPad though was kinda, how should I say it... no oomph! It's loud enough to hear in a quiet environment, but, even in maximum speaker volume, the sound begins to lose steam in a semi-noisy environment. The sound was awesome on my Nokia Bluetooth headset though! Of course, the iPad also has a 3.5" audio connector for use with wired headphones. If you begin to experience ear strain, use a speaker dock or amplified speakers for maximum sound output.

The iPad is light at 1.5lbs to 1.6lbs (3G) or more than half of a kilogram. It get's heavier after about 15 minutes of firmly holding it... or was that my hand just tiring out? ^^,

With the iPad, nothing feels cheap. Of course, it doesn't come cheap either.

II. What I Disliked about the iPad

What's not to like about the Apple iPad? For first impressions, it's almost perfect. But up close and personal? No, not really.

For starters, Apple boasts 250,000 apps on its app store. I found out though that only .04 percent of that is actually compatible with the 7-inch screen. Don't get me wrong, all of those free and paid 250,000 apps work on the iPad--it's just that they were either made for the iPhone or iPod so the screen size for most of the apps are the same as the iPhone and iPod. The iPad does provide a zoom feature but by the time the app fills the screen, the app gets so pixelized, you'll feel like you traveled in time to the days of  playing Super Mario on the NES. I didn't enjoy playing Angry Birds on the iPad.

Another thing which I found lacking--and I think most people would agree with me on this--is the lack of a front facing camera. For all the vanity that goes with the iPad, a camera should have been included to flaunt it even more! Rumor is though, that Apple is going to include a camera in it's next iteration of the iPad.

No Adobe Flash. Having Adobe Flash on the iPad or on all Apple products is very important because much of the Internet's rich media like online streaming, graphics, and even whole websites, is encoded in Adobe Flash. When I switched to the PC to watch my favorite TV shows on OnlineReplays, I totally forgot about the iPad until the following day. For such a media-centric device, not supporting Adobe Flash was pure disappointment.

I also still can't connect to my company email too. It's weird that I can configure Outlook Web Access on an iPhone yet fail on the iPad. If you have a solution on how to configure Outlook Web Access on the iPad, I would appreciate it very much.

III. What I Liked about the iPad.

I was totally impressed with the long battery life of the iPad. Even with WiFi continuously on, audio blaring on the built-in speakers, chatting, browsing, and gaming, the battery lasted for days . The Mobily micro-SIM was not yet activated prior to this writing so I didn't have the chance to test out the 3G but I guess with the Wifi continuously on, it was enough to gauge battery life.

As much as I disliked that only .04% of apps at the Apple store were for the iPhone or iPod and of which half were probably junk, there were some jewels among the rubbish--and I was just skimming the surface of apps. Apps will make or break the iPad. Here are my top five.

1. VLC Player
It's the saving grace of watching videos on the iPad. I'm pretty sure you know what I mean. You've got all of these movies and TV shows saved on your hard drive but find out you have to convert them to the .mov format first before you can watch them on your iPad. Not anymore with the VLC Player. Just copy the file into your iPad and watch away.

2. RSS Readers and Newspaper Feeds
For bloggers who need to stay updated on current events, RSS Readers and Newspaper feeds are a must. That is why a lot of app developers have taken advantage of the capabilities of the iPad and have created a lot of them. They all work the same, while others have some special features.

3. Team Viewer
With more than a 100 million users, TeamViewer connects to any PC or server around the world within a few seconds. I can remote control my PC at home or provide technical support using the Team Viewer app.

4. iBooks
All my life, I've loved reading books. There's a different sensation when your brain translates words and stories into images and scenes in your mind. The iPad fits the bill, and like I said earlier, the iPad is easy on the eyes so reading is a blast on the iPad. The Kindle (If you can't beat 'em, join 'em) app works similarly to iBooks, but has a direct access to Amazon, wherein thousands of books can be bought and downloaded for reading on the iPad.

5. Dropbox
Do you constantly forget your USB at home. I sure do and it gets frustrating. Fortunately there's Dropbox, a service that uses the cloud to enable its users to store and share files and folders across the Internet using file synchronization. And it works like a normal folder. Just copy the file into the Dropbox folder and that file becomes accessible to you or to others you share it with anywhere with an Internet connection.

IV. Conclusion:

The hardware, as is with most Apple devices, is manufactured to perfection. Albeit with the iPad, I think Steve Jobs and the Apple team could have done more with the operating system like support Adobe Flash.

So, do I like the iPad? Yes. Do I want an iPad? Yes. Will I buy an iPad? No. Do I have the money to buy an iPad? Yes. And still I won't buy it. Why? iPad 2.

Google has once again changed it search algorithms and the blogging world must adapt once again.

It shouldn't be that big of a problem for those who have been in the industry long enough, but according to Ewan Watt, managing director of Melbourge search engine optimisation company ROI, "small guys have been snuffed out."

So, what is the new Google Place Search?

Google product manager Jackie Bavaro announced Place Search on Wednesday, describing it as a new kind of local search result that organizes information around places, clustering search results around locations that enable users to more easily make comparisons.

The new Google Place Search produces a local map on the screen, and a list of several entries with red flags, referring to the map.

"Place Search results will begin appearing automatically on Google when we predict you're looking for local information. In addition, you'll find a new link for 'Places' in the left-hand panel of the search results page so you can switch to these results whenever you want."

What happens if your blog isn't optimized for the new Google Place Search?

A blog that previously came up fourth on a list in response to a Google search, might now have 10 map-based entries above it, relegating it to 14th position on the list, pushing it below what search engine experts call "the fold", the bottom of the computer screen.
