For $20000, Can You Hack Google Chrome?

Talk about extreme confidence, but Google is so sure it's Chrome browser is unhackable that it has laid down $20,000 and a Chrome CR-48 notebook on the table as price for the first person who can prove them wrong.

Google's $20,000 plus notebook is the largest price ever offered at the P2n2Own hacking competition next month (March 9, 2011) at CanSecWest security conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Competitors will try and hack into Google Chrome as well as Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefoxx and Apple's Safari using machines running Windows 7 or Mac OS X.

Microsoft, Mozilla and Apple have also each offered $15,000 to the first person who crack their browser' security with Aaron Portnoy, of HP TippingPoint, sponsor of Pwn2Own exclaiming that "We've upped the ante this time around and the total cash pool alloted for prizes has risen to a whopping $125,000."

According to a report at ComputerWorld.com, in order to win Google's $20,000 prize - as well as a Chrome CR-48 notebook - on the first day of the three-day event, the successful hacker must find and exploit into two vulnerabilities in its code.

On the second and third day, hackers can use a bug from outside Chrome to try and infiltrate its defences. The first successful researcher will still receive $20,000, but half the prize money will be paid by sponsor TippingPoint.

The New Google Android Honeycomb Tablet

Google gave a sneak peek of its long-awaited tablet which will run a special new version of Android nicknamed Honeycomb.

The Google Honeycomb tablet, which was briefly unveiled at an event in San Francisco by Google Anroid expert Andy Rubin, will be built by Motorola and is due to be released next year.

No specifications were given out by the Mr. Rubin but may believe it will be an upgraded version of Stingray, Motorola's contribution to the tablet wars, which will also be released next year.

Google Changes Search Algorithms Once More With Place Search

Google has once again changed it search algorithms and the blogging world must adapt once again.

It shouldn't be that big of a problem for those who have been in the industry long enough, but according to Ewan Watt, managing director of Melbourge search engine optimisation company ROI, "small guys have been snuffed out."

So, what is the new Google Place Search?

Google product manager Jackie Bavaro announced Place Search on Wednesday, describing it as a new kind of local search result that organizes information around places, clustering search results around locations that enable users to more easily make comparisons.

The new Google Place Search produces a local map on the screen, and a list of several entries with red flags, referring to the map.

"Place Search results will begin appearing automatically on Google when we predict you're looking for local information. In addition, you'll find a new link for 'Places' in the left-hand panel of the search results page so you can switch to these results whenever you want."

What happens if your blog isn't optimized for the new Google Place Search?

A blog that previously came up fourth on a list in response to a Google search, might now have 10 map-based entries above it, relegating it to 14th position on the list, pushing it below what search engine experts call "the fold", the bottom of the computer screen.

Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" Features Voice Chat And YouTube Leanback

As the rollout for the Android 2.2 "Froyo" upgrade is ongoing, the attention shifts to the next iteration of Android OS AKA "Gingerbread".

The Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" build will be optimized for latest trend in technology, tablets.

Phandroid got a first glimpse on the new Android build and notes that in addition to what appears to be a major graphical overhaul of icons and user interface, the biggest confirmed features coming in Android 3.0 include video chat support leveraging the Google Talk protocols and SIP support for Google Voice.

The standard icons on Android 3.0 have been redesigned for a simpler and cleaner look which should look great on the optimized 1280X760 resolution supported by the new OS.

With the Android handsets expected to serve as another remote controle for Google TV, the YouTube app on Anroid 3.0 will include the ability to control YouTube Leanback.

SIP, or Session Initiation Protocol in Google Voice will let users receive calls to Google Voice over Wi-Fi and cellular data.

Google confirmed that the new Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" will be out at the end of the year but declined further comment on the matter.

Google Search In An "Instant"

Have you noticed anything particularly different with Google Search? Nothing?

I know how fast you type, but take it slowly this time. Like a letter per second or even more.

Notice anything now? It's called Google Instant. It's Google's new way of searching the Internet which starts predicting results as soon as users begin typing.

Blogger's New Insert Video Button

Previously, you had to upload your video on Youtube or other video streaming websites, copy the embed code and paste it into your post. Now posting videos can be done directly from Blogger. It's a piece of cake too. Just click on the Insert Video icon, which is between the Inserts Image and Jump break icons, browse for the video file then upload. And, while waiting for the video file to be uploaded, you can begin writing your article.
