Hackers Now Targetting Kids With Gaming Websites That Infect Their Parents PC's

PC's nowadays are child's play. Kids as young as 3 play flash games over the Internet and Hackers have taken notice. Hackers have taken to creating cartoon gaming websites that look legitimate enough but quietly load Trojans to steal information.

CuteArcade.com has reportedly infected more than 12000 computers while HiddenNinjaGames.com is also a security risk according to Czech security firm Avast virus lab.

Kids are very susceptible to these gaming websites because they are impulsive and will not stop and think before clicking on a catchy image that links to malicious software.

Precautions can be made by parents by enabling Anti-Phishing options in your browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) and by installing an Anti-Malware software like Malwarebytes to help detect and block virus-infected websites.

How To Enable Anti-Phishing On Your Browser

A new PC virus called the SpyEye is a trojan that steals your money and you wouldn't even know it was gone.

When you visit your online bank after the SpyEye trojan virus attack, there will be no trace of the transactions that cyber-criminals are using to empty your bank account plus your balance is also adjusted on the screen so it looks like nothing is happening.

The SpyEye trojan virus, which is currently on the attack in the US and UK, steals your bank passwords to give access to your account - waits for you to enter the same banking details before 'adjusting' what you see.

The idea is that it gives thieves more time to use your debit card details on fraudulent transactions without you realising it's happening.

According to Trusteer, the security company which detected the SpyEye trojan virus attack, "The next time the victim visits their online banking site, the malware hides the fraudulent transactions, as well as artificially changing the total balance. As a result, the deceived customer has no idea that their account has been ‘taken over’, nor that any fraudulent transactions have taken place."

The first you'll learn of the attack is your bank refusing you money, or a paper statement showing you that cyber criminals have been draining money out of your account.

With hi-tech cyber attacks such as SpyEye, there are few visible signs that anything is wrong.

There are defences, though - ensure your browser is up to date, manually updating it if necessary.

You should also ensure that the 'anti-phishing' option is switched to 'on' in Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer, which will check for 'blacklisted' websites and prevent your browser being directed to the 'fake' version that delivers your bank statement.

How to Enable Anti-Phishing on your browser:

Internet Explorer:

1. Click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab
2. Scroll Down to Phishing Filter and select the "Turn on automatic website checking" option

Firefox:
1. Click on Tools > Options > Security
2. Tick the "Block reported attack sites" option
3. Tick the "Block reported web forgeries" option

Chrome:
1. Click on the Wrench icon > Options > Under The Hood > Privacy > Tick the "Enable phishing and malware protection" option

Safari
1. Settings > Safari
2. Turn "Fraud Warning" on

Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Now Available

iOS fans rejoice!!! @pod2g has created an untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for non-A5 devices! @pod2g recently decided to push the button on a release for all devices except the new iPhone4S and iPad2. @pod2g’s untether jailbreak for iOS 5.1 involves two separate exploits and a few other “tricks."

A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. They’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three).

CLICK HERE ON TO GET THE UNTETHERED JAILBREAK AND  HOW TO JAILBREAK YOUR iDEVICE.

The untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 works only on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G while @pod2g looks for a way to extend this to A5 devices because those devices cannot use geohot’s limera1n exploit to inject the untether, they require exploits above and beyond those used for this release. Keep following pod2g on twitter or his blog for any progress reports!

How To Delete Drunkgirlroom, Funroom, Love2showoff, KinkyChat From Your Hotmail (Windows Live Mail)

One of my colleagues' Hotmail account was previously hacked. The account was then restored and wanted to let his contacts know that they can again send email to the restored Hotmail account. He noticed that Drunkgirlroom, Funroom, Love2showoff, KinkyChat were included in the contacts list. He was sure he did not add these contacts and could not find them in the contacts list so he could delete them.

If you're facing the same issue, this is actually a pending Group Network Invitation. To delete Drunkgirlroom, Funroom, Love2showoff, KinkyChat and others from your Hotmail (Windows Live Mail) account, you need to decline the Invitation by following these steps:

1. Login to Hotmail (Windows Live Mail)
2. Click Contacts.
3. Click View invitations.
4. Click on Groups.
5. Click No, thanks.

How To Password-Protect Your Wireless Network

"We're acutely aware that we failed badly." These were the apologetic words of Google executive Alan Eustace after Google was accused of spying on households.

Google admitted that by antennae, its high-tech Street View cars had 'mistakenly collected' entire emails, web pages, and even passwords from ordinary households without knowledge or consent . Talk about invasion of privacy.

The Street View cars' antennae skips networks five times a second, meaning each network was only accessed for one-fifth of a second. That split-second was all it took to 'mistakenly collect' entire emails, web pages and passwords from unknowing people.

BUT, the information was only gathered from wireless networks which were NOT password-protected!

Google really failed on invasion of privacy, but what really was astonishing were the millions of unprotected wireless networks across the US and UK. We're not talking anymore about Google's invasion of privacy here, but a carelessness of people to password-protect their wireless networks and how this is a potential gold mine for criminals who aren't Google.

HOW TO PASSWORD-PROTECT YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK

Routers like Linksys and Netgear always have wireless security embedded in its products.

You can access these wireless security options by typing http://192.168.0.1 for Netgear or http://192.168.1.1 for Linksys on your browser's address bar (i.e. Firefox, IE8, Chrome). Other routers also follow suite with these address. Check your router's manual if you aren't sure.

For Netgear and Linksys, the default username to access the control panel is "admin" and the default password is "password" for Netgear and "admin" for Linksys.

Once you've successfully logged on to the control panel, proceed to Wireless Settings.

Here, you are presented with a list of Security options. They are:

  • WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
  • WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)
  • WP2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key)
...and others.

Personally, I use the WPA-PSK over the WEP and WPA2-PSK. WPA-PSK is more secure than WEP. Although WPA2-PSK is more secure than WPA-PSK, some older laptops and smartphones do not have the capbility to access WPA2-PSK secured wireless networks, hence WPA-PSK.

The WPA-PSK security encryption network key must be a minimum of 8 characters to a maximum of 63.

A strong password uses a combination of CAPITAL and small letters and numbers. For example, a password with the characters Pass1234Word would take a hacker 10 million years to hack. Of course, you can't use these combination now since it's already posted, but you get the idea. To further check on the strength of your password, click HERE.

Once you've successfully password-protected your wireless network, you can take a breather but don't let your guard down. Regularly change the password on your wireless network. Better to be safe than sorry.

How To Find Out If Your Password Is Secure

If you own an email account, a facebook and twitter account, or a credit card or paypal account, there is a possibility it can be hacked.

A website called How Secure Is My Password gives you an idea how easy or how hard it will be to hack your password.

Click HERE to visit the How Secure Is My Password and just type in your password into the input box and the site will tell you how long your password can be cracked.

Updated:Zeus v3 Removal Tool

Currently, no Zeus v3 Removal Tool has been released to the public but Symantec has announced on its webpage that "Norton products have already been updated to identify and protect against Zeus (aka Trojan.Zbot) and its variants. Current users of Symantec’s Norton security products are protected."

Other antivirus softwares may soon follow suit towards thwarting the Zeus v3 trojan virus so update your antivirus definitions now. If you still don't have an antivirus software, scroll down below to download one for FREE.

The Zeus v3 trojan virus hit Britain hard with more than 3000 victims and a haul of more than half a million pounds though, according to the security firm M86, all victims were customers of just one online bank in Britain which is still unnamed probably due to security reasons. Despite the Zeus v3 attack being singled out in Britain, the security experts have not ruled out the possibility of an even wider coverage of trojan virus attacks.

Trojan viruses like the Zeus v3 are very tricky and hide in websites, emails or downloads. Once installed on a computer they can record every type of the keyboard, steal confidential information or even open up a PC's security so that it can be controlled remotely from another country. So be careful how you conduct your online money transactions.

Zeus v3 Is 'Most Dangerous Trojan Virus' To Date

Update: Zeus Trojan Virus Removal Tool

A new variant of the Zeus trojan virus is now being described by experts as the most sophisticated and dangerous trojan virus ever created.

Thousands of British online banking customers fell victim to the Zeus v3 trojan virus wherein, between July 5 and August 4, £675,000 have already been stolen.

How To Ping Your Blog

It has been slow Friday, blogwise. As a nooblogger, it's 'aint easy to jump-start a blog in an otherwise crowded field of Tech. Well, unless you really have some really superdooper-mega-over special invention--which is really rare in most cases. Now, what to do? hmmmm.... Ping! Did a lightbulb just turn on over my head? Well, no, not really.

In the field of Information Technology, PING is a computer network administration utility/command to test whether a particular host (another PC) is reachable across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

In blogging, PING is a push mechanism by which a blog notifies a server that its content has been updated. When you PING your blog, you're basically jumping up and down, and yelling to the search engines that, "Hey, check out my website/blog. I've got something new for ya!" ...without really being paranoid about it.

How To Keep Your Laptop Battery In Tip-top Condition

Your new laptop battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to your computer manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the battery may require two to three charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.

When charging the laptop battery for the first time your computer may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Simply remove the battery from the computer and repeat the charging procedure.

It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the laptop battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run

Windows 7/Vista USB Installer

If you read my instructions on how to create a Windows 7/Vista USB Installer in DOS, well, an easier way has been provided by Microsoft to create such a tool, the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

You'll need to convert your Windows 7/Vista DVD Installer into .ISO format before anything else. Insert your USB Drive (4Gb minimum) and start up the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool application. Browse to your .ISO file and in four steps you'll have turned your USB into a bootable Windows 7/Vista USB installer.

To create and .ISO file, there a lot of free applications on the Web like Minidvdsoft's Free ISO Creator and/or Nbxsoft's Free Create-Burn ISO.

System Requirements for Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool:
  •     Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  •     Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  •     50MB of free space on your hard drive
  •     DVD-R drive or 4GB removable USB flash drive
For Windows XP Users
The following applications must be installed prior to installing the tool:

Windows Universal Media Player

Windows Media Player is Microsoft's propriety music and video player software. Windows Media Player supports the following audio and video formats by default: .wav, .cda, .au, .snd, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .mid, .midi, .rmi, .mp3, .mp2, .mpa, .avi, .wma, .asf, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .wmv, .wm, .avi, and .asf.

To support other popular formats such as vob, rm, aac, mp4, flac, ogg, divx, et.al., Windows Media Player needs codecs (coder and decoder). Manually finding and downloading these files can be a hectic process. Fortunately, Codecguide has compiled most of the codecs for us and one of the best compiled packs they have is the K-Lite Codec Pack which has about 95% codecs stripped-down and compressed into one tiny installer. The K-Lite Codec Pack has 5 Versions, namely, Basic, Standard, Full, Mega, and Corporate. They also have a codec pack for 64-bit systems.

You don't have to download separate player applications like Quicktime, or Real Media Player, etcetera, just to play a particular format. By installing the K-Lite Codec Pack, Windows Media Player becomes a power-packed Universal Media Player. Another benefit of having a codec package installed in your system is that you are assured a high (if not 100%)-rate of success when converting between formats. Now, all you need is DirectVobSub to load subtitle (.srt) files and you're all set.

How To Hide Feedjit Live Stats

I got to know Feedjt Live Stats when I downloaded a template for PraiseChords, and Feedjit Live Stats was incorporated into the template. Since, I'm a nooblogger, it was actually cool to see that other people, other than myself was viewing my articles.
