Makers Of BlackBerry Unveil The PlayBook

Another tablet has been unveiled, this time by the makers of the BlackBerry, Research in Motion (RIM). It's called the PlayBook and is half the size of the Apple iPad, weighs the same as the Apple iPad, but is just 9.77mm thick.

RIM's PlayBook has two high-def front and rear cameras, runs on a 1GHz dual-core CPU (drool...), supports 1080p high-def video, supports Adobe Flash, Wi-Fi and BlueTooth. The PlayBook doesn't run on Windows or Android, instead RIM chose to use its own QNX Software Systems which it acquired in April this year.

A fabulous feature of the new PlayBook is that through a secure wireless link, the Playbook can also be used as a second and bigger screen for their smart phone. And when they disconnect the two, no secure BlackBerry data will be left on the PlayBook.

Says RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, "RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world's most robust and flexible operating systems."

Due to dwindling sales of the BlackBerry, the unveiling of the PlayBook brings RIM back in the playing field especially in the business sector.

RIM Tablet To Be Launched Next Week

BlackBerry maker RIM, seeing its market share dwindle due to an influx of Androd smartphones, is set to take on a new direction according to the Wall Street Journal.

At a developer's conference in San Francisco next week, RIM is going to launch a seven-inch touchscreen with built-in camera being nicknamed "BlackPad" for obvious reasons.

The BlackPad along with the Samsung Galaxy Tab has been named among other contenders to take on the Applie iPad.
