How To Enable Lightbox Picture Gallery For Blogger (Blogspot)

With the upgrade of Google's Blogger editor interface comes a new feature that showcases images on our blogs. Previously, you had to install the Lightbox jQuery script on your blog, which you can still do, but Blogger has made it easier to enable on our blogs.

To enable the Lightbox feature for Blogger, simply switch to the new Blogger interface then go to Settings > Posts and Comments > Showcase Images With Lightbox then select Yes from the drop-down menu. Save Settings and you're done!

When you click on an image, it will open in an overlay on top of your blog. If your post has multiple images, they will appear as thumbnails along the bottom.

Google Changes Search Algorithms Once More With Place Search

Google has once again changed it search algorithms and the blogging world must adapt once again.

It shouldn't be that big of a problem for those who have been in the industry long enough, but according to Ewan Watt, managing director of Melbourge search engine optimisation company ROI, "small guys have been snuffed out."

So, what is the new Google Place Search?

Google product manager Jackie Bavaro announced Place Search on Wednesday, describing it as a new kind of local search result that organizes information around places, clustering search results around locations that enable users to more easily make comparisons.

The new Google Place Search produces a local map on the screen, and a list of several entries with red flags, referring to the map.

"Place Search results will begin appearing automatically on Google when we predict you're looking for local information. In addition, you'll find a new link for 'Places' in the left-hand panel of the search results page so you can switch to these results whenever you want."

What happens if your blog isn't optimized for the new Google Place Search?

A blog that previously came up fourth on a list in response to a Google search, might now have 10 map-based entries above it, relegating it to 14th position on the list, pushing it below what search engine experts call "the fold", the bottom of the computer screen.

What to do in order to optimize your online presence?

Make sure you have a page on you website containing a physical address, phone numbers and other items such as reviews.

Blogger Auto Update Post Feature

I encountered a new feature with Blogger today. I don't really know what the feature is called so I'll just call it the Auto Update Post Feature.

Previously, if I wanted to update and repost an article as the latest post, I had to edit the date then publish. Today, it was automatically done for me. As soon as I updated the article, all I had to do was click on publish and Blogger did the rest. Every updated article was automatically adjusted to be the first post on my blog.

Now it's the other way around if you want to update an article but want that article to stay put. Edit the publish dates before publishing.

This Auto Update Post Feature should be a great feature for blogs with dynamic content like video blogs. Methinks though that it would be better if a prompt was presented asking weather the updated article should be reposted as new or old.

Blogger's New Insert Video Button

Previously, you had to upload your video on Youtube or other video streaming websites, copy the embed code and paste it into your post. Now posting videos can be done directly from Blogger. It's a piece of cake too. Just click on the Insert Video icon, which is between the Inserts Image and Jump break icons, browse for the video file then upload. And, while waiting for the video file to be uploaded, you can begin writing your article.

I've been using custom templates for TechEncounter.Net and PraiseChords.Net which I think most bloggers do for their Blogger sites too. Perhaps in a bid to spice up their boring templates, Google launched the Blogger Template Designer.

How To Ping Your Blog

It has been slow Friday, blogwise. As a nooblogger, it's 'aint easy to jump-start a blog in an otherwise crowded field of Tech. Well, unless you really have some really superdooper-mega-over special invention--which is really rare in most cases. Now, what to do? hmmmm.... Ping! Did a lightbulb just turn on over my head? Well, no, not really.

In the field of Information Technology, PING is a computer network administration utility/command to test whether a particular host (another PC) is reachable across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

In blogging, PING is a push mechanism by which a blog notifies a server that its content has been updated. When you PING your blog, you're basically jumping up and down, and yelling to the search engines that, "Hey, check out my website/blog. I've got something new for ya!" ...without really being paranoid about it.

I got to know Feedjt Live Stats when I downloaded a template for PraiseChords, and Feedjit Live Stats was incorporated into the template. Since, I'm a nooblogger, it was actually cool to see that other people, other than myself was viewing my articles. But I had a dilema, it was taking a lot of space on my sidebar and I wanted to remove the widget, but I still wanted the stat results. My Blog
