Windows On Your iPad App

Want to run Windows including your favorite MS Office applications like Word and Excel on your iPad? How about running PC Games like Minecraft and Call of Duty? There's an app for that and it's free--you don't even have to own Windows or buy one.

The new OnLive app, which will be in the iTunes store on January 12, 2012,  turns your iPad into a powerful cloud PC which streams a Windows desktop onto the the iPad along with MS Office applications.

iPad users will now be able to securely view and edit cloud-hosted documents with full-featured Windows desktop applications like Microsoft Office, just as if they were using a local high-performance PC.

Multi-touch gestures respond instantly and smoothly, while HD videos, animations and PC video games—-never before usable on a remote desktop—-play seamlessly.

The app offers multi-touch gesture control that responds instantly, but there's also a full on-screen Windows keyboard and handwriting recognition.

The free verison of the OnLive Desktop app comes with 2 GB of secure cloud storage and access to a cloud-based Windows 7 desktop pre-populated with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus several utilities and touch games.

A 'Pro' version will offer 50GB of Cloud storage, web browsing and more PC applications such as games.

Want The Free Case For Your iPhone? There's An App For That!

Want to get a free iPhone 4 case?

Don't shoot me for using this overworked phrase, but ... there's an app for that.

In response to an alleged design flaw in its newest phone that causes dropped calls and poor reception, Apple announced last week that it would give consumers a free case that covers the antenna and fixes the issue.

Fring Two-Way Video Call Now On The Android

Windows 7/Vista USB Installer

If you read my instructions on how to create a Windows 7/Vista USB Installer in DOS, well, an easier way has been provided by Microsoft to create such a tool, the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

You'll need to convert your Windows 7/Vista DVD Installer into .ISO format before anything else. Insert your USB Drive (4Gb minimum) and start up the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool application. Browse to your .ISO file and in four steps you'll have turned your USB into a bootable Windows 7/Vista USB installer.

To create and .ISO file, there a lot of free applications on the Web like Minidvdsoft's Free ISO Creator and/or Nbxsoft's Free Create-Burn ISO.

System Requirements for Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool:

•     Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
•     Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
•     50MB of free space on your hard drive
•     DVD-R drive or 4GB removable USB flash drive

For Windows XP Users
The following applications must be installed prior to installing the tool:

•      Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
•      Microsoft Image Mastering API v2.

Windows Universal Media Player

Windows Media Player is Microsoft's propriety music and video player software. Windows Media Player supports the following audio and video formats by default: .wav, .cda, .au, .snd, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .mid, .midi, .rmi, .mp3, .mp2, .mpa, .avi, .wma, .asf, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .wmv, .wm, .avi, and .asf.

To support other popular formats such as vob, rm, aac, mp4, flac, ogg, divx, et.al., Windows Media Player needs codecs (coder and decoder). Manually finding and downloading these files can be a hectic process. Fortunately, Codecguide has compiled most of the codecs for us and one of the best compiled packs they have is the K-Lite Codec Pack which has about 95% codecs stripped-down and compressed into one tiny installer. The K-Lite Codec Pack has 5 Versions, namely, Basic, Standard, Full, Mega, and Corporate. They also have a codec pack for 64-bit systems.

You don't have to download separate player applications like Quicktime, or Real Media Player, etcetera, just to play a particular format. By installing the K-Lite Codec Pack, Windows Media Player becomes a power-packed Universal Media Player. Another benefit of having a codec package installed in your system is that you are assured a high (if not 100%)-rate of success when converting between formats. Now, all you need is DirectVobSub to load subtitle (.srt) files and you're all set.

Even for experienced Network Administrators, tracking down IP Addresses in multiple subnets can be a nightmare. Fortunately, from testing multiple network monitoring tools, I found SolarWinds (although, we still went with Fluke) and subscribed to their newsletters. Today, they provided me with a free tool to help with my daily tasks.

SolarWinds IP Address Tracker can be used to actively monitor which IP addresses are in use on your network across multiple subnets. It can also be used to pre allocate IP addresses.

• Track IP addresses for a unified, at-a-glance view of your entire IP address space

• Eliminate manual errors, while ensuring that IP addresses are listed in the right place
• Pre-populate key statistics like DNS and response time

Minimum Requirements:
1. Operating System    Install on a 32-bit or 64-bit edition of one of the following operating systems:

•     Microsoft Windows XP
•     Microsoft Windows Vista
•     Microsoft Windows Server 2003
•     Microsoft Windows Server 2008

2. Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later.
3. Hard Drive space    10MB
