It looks like an iPad but costs way way way way cheaper. India's HR development minister, Kapil Sibal, unveiled a $35 (roughly PhP1650) that runs on Linux but may run on the Android OS.
Although a camera is not visible in the video below, the $35 tablet is capable of video conferencing. It has USB ports and supports Adobe's Flash. Something Apple's iPad can't do... yet.
The tablet is a web surfing machine that can do video conferencing and word processing. At an added cost, a solar power option can be supplied.
It will be powered by Marvell's moby platform which features gigahertz-class processor speed, 1080p full-HD encode and decode, intelligent power management, power-efficient Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM/GPS connectivity, high performance 3D graphics capability and support for multiple software standards including full Adobe Flash, Android™ and Windows Mobile. The ultra low power Moby tablet is designed for long-battery life.
The inexpensive tablet doesn't have a hard disk, but instead uses a memory card, much like a mobile phone. The tablet design cuts hardware costs and the use of open-source software adds to savings which may cut the $35 price tag even lower to $10.
