Charge Your Phone While Cycling

Remember those old bicycles that had dynamo-powered lights? Well, now you can add another dynamo-powered gadget on your bicycle.

Phone manufacturer Nokia has come up with a device that uses pedal power alone to charge up batteries.

Much like the dynamo-powered lights, the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit uses a cable that connects to a dynamo, which charges when the wheels turn, and comes with a phone holder that straps to the handlebars.

You would need to cycle at a speed of about four miles an hour or more, and the faster you go the more your battery gets charged.

For an average handset, cycling at speed of 10 miles an hour for 10 minutes will give you around 28 minutes of talk-time or 37 minutes of standby, according to Nokia.

The company's vice-president Alex lambeek said: 'Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing.

'This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible.'

The kit will go on sale towards the end 2010.
