FAIL - Philippines First Automated Elections

MANILA, Philippines—A joint congressional canvassing committee Thursday night used a laborious, manual method and the crudest tools, including a bolt cutter, to begin tabulating votes for president and vice president in what was supposed to be a high-tech, automated election process.

The committee also used a white board and a black marker to paste up the tallies for public viewing.
After two days of delay, the committee started tallying up the results, starting with votes cast by Filipino voters overseas.

The first ballot box containing the certificate of canvass (CoC) from Laos was opened Thursday night. It was followed by the ballot boxes containing the respective CoCs from Guam, Brunei, Papua New Guinea and Thailand.

Sen. Benigno Aquino III led the presidential race with 2,014 votes. He was followed by Sen. Manuel Villar with 585 votes; Gilberto Teodoro Jr., 548 votes; former President Joseph Estrada, 400 votes; Eduardo Villanueva, 362 votes; Richard Gordon, 298 votes; JC de los Reyes, 10 votes; Sen. Jamby Madrigal, 7 votes; and Nicanor Perlas, 2 votes.

In the vice presidential race, Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II was ahead with 1,920 votes. He was followed by Sen. Loren Legarda with 855; Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, 642; Bayani Fernando, 459; Perfecto Yasay, 182; Edu Manzano, 108; Jose Sonza, 31; and Dominador Chipeco, 5. [Inquirer.Net]
