Apple Vs. Microsoft | OS X Mountain Lion Vs. Windows 8

Windows 8 is an operating system that I've been trying out since the Technical Preview. With the Consumer Preview I'm now looking forward to the Final Release of Windows 8--especially in the tablet form factor. With Windows 8, Microsoft wants to incorporate the OS not just on a PC or laptop, but also on a tablet and on a smartphone. Seems like a good idea? I guess it is. Well, because here's another OS I'm looking forward to: Apple's OS X Mountain Lion. I just watched the sneak peek [scroll down for video] and it looks like they want the same for the Mac.

With Microsoft wanting to bring the Windows 8 experience onto the tablet and smartphone and Apple aiming to bring the iPhone and iPad experience onto the Mac with Mountain Lion, the battle for supremacy is once again on!

Although, methinks that Apple has already gotten a head start. I simply adored the iPad-like multitasking gestures on my MacBook which is currently running on Mac OS X Lion, so with bootcamp I installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview to try out what it can do using a multi-touch track pad. It was pretty disappointing since only the swiping/sliding function worked, though it's safe to say that Apple may not have the proper drivers for Windows 8 yet. I haven't seen one that is at par with that of the MacBook's multi-touch track pad and with Microsoft diving into the tablet and smartphone arena, makes me wonder how laptop manufacturers are going to work on multi-touch track pads with Windows 8 because it's pretty much a task as seen on the Windows 8 sneak peak [scroll down for video].

Though still in their phases, Windows 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion are both going to be feature-rich Operating Systems. Which OS will win the heart of the masses? Your guess is as good as mine but I'm sure as heck it won't be Google's Android OS.

Apple Mac OS X Mountain Lion is slated to be released in "Summer 2012" and Microsoft Windows 8 is rumored to be released this October 2012.

Huawei Ascend D Quad XL | World's Fastest Smartphone

Ever heard of Huawei (pronounced "wa-wei")? In the telecom industry, Huawei is the second largest supplier of mobile telecommunications infrastructure in the world after Ericcson. In 2010 Huawei began shipping its first smartphones and this 2012, Huawei wants your next phone to be made by Huawei!

What does Huawei have to offer? Well, Huwaei holds the distinction for having the "world's slimmest smartphone" --the Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Huawei Ascend P1 S with a depth of 0.26 inches (the previous slimmest smartphone was the Motorola Droid Razr at 0.28 inches).

In their Ascend series of smartphones, Huawei is taking the smartphones war to a whole new level with the Huawei Ascend D Quad XL Smartphone. Huawei claims it's the "world's fastest smartphone" with a whooping 1.5GHZ quad-core processor!

Like the Huawei Ascend P1 S introduced at CES, the Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Huawei Ascend D Quad XL has a smooth, slightly rubberized back, and a slight bump for a grip toward the bottom back of the phone.

The Huawei Ascend D Quad XL has a 1280-by-720-pixel touchscreen with 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of ROM memory. The integrated Dolby Mobile 3.0 Plus produced pulsating audio. The front-facing camera is 1.3 megapixels, while the rear camera is 8 megapixels and capable of 720p video. Huawei also integrates Audience's earSmart dual-microphone noise reduction technology and the micro-USB port doubles as an MHL-HDMI connector.

The Ascend D Quad XL support five UMTS bands and four GSM bands, but no LTE yet which come later this year, in the third quarter or beyond according to Huawei.

The phones will first come out in China, then in Europe and North America.

This is the new Windows 8 logo. Plain and simple.
And downright boring!

On the other hand, here is Apple's new OSX Mountain Lion logo:

Hackers Now Targetting Kids With Gaming Websites That Infect Their Parents PC's

PC's nowadays are child's play. Kids as young as 3 play flash games over the Internet and Hackers have taken notice. Hackers have taken to creating cartoon gaming websites that look legitimate enough but quietly load Trojans to steal information.

CuteArcade.com has reportedly infected more than 12000 computers while HiddenNinjaGames.com is also a security risk according to Czech security firm Avast virus lab.

Kids are very susceptible to these gaming websites because they are impulsive and will not stop and think before clicking on a catchy image that links to malicious software.

Precautions can be made by parents by enabling Anti-Phishing options in your browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) and by installing an Anti-Malware software like Malwarebytes to help detect and block virus-infected websites.

Multi-touch gestures respond instantly and smoothly, while HD videos, animations and PC video games—-never before usable on a remote desktop—-play seamlessly.

The app offers multi-touch gesture control that responds instantly, but there's also a full on-screen Windows keyboard and handwriting recognition.

--Steve Perlman, OnLive's CEO

The free verison of the OnLive Desktop app comes with 2 GB of secure cloud storage and access to a cloud-based Windows 7 desktop pre-populated with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus several utilities and touch games.

BitTorrent Share Means Unlimited File Sharing

BitTorrent, more known for it's peer-to-preer file sharing protocol has created a service that competes with Dropbox, SkyDrive and Box.net. The new service, which BitTorrent calls Share, offers what not other file sharing service can give: UNLIMITED SHARING!

BitTorrent's Share allows subscribers to share unlimited files at unlimited file sizes with an unlimited number of personal contacts at no cost.

BitTorrent will be relying on Amazon’s EC2 and S3 services to allow for this unique file sharing experience. Files are cached on the cloud so users don’t have to be online at the same time to complete transfers. Once a file is successfully received by all recipients, it will be removed from the cloud. Share is currently available in an alpha stage of development and only for Windows users. Mac users will be able to test the service in an alpha release of µTorrent.

How To Enable Anti-Phishing On Your Browser

A new PC virus called the SpyEye is a trojan that steals your money and you wouldn't even know it was gone.

When you visit your online bank after the SpyEye trojan virus attack, there will be no trace of the transactions that cyber-criminals are using to empty your bank account plus your balance is also adjusted on the screen so it looks like nothing is happening.

The SpyEye trojan virus, which is currently on the attack in the US and UK, steals your bank passwords to give access to your account - waits for you to enter the same banking details before 'adjusting' what you see.

The idea is that it gives thieves more time to use your debit card details on fraudulent transactions without you realising it's happening.

According to Trusteer, the security company which detected the SpyEye trojan virus attack, "The next time the victim visits their online banking site, the malware hides the fraudulent transactions, as well as artificially changing the total balance. As a result, the deceived customer has no idea that their account has been ‘taken over’, nor that any fraudulent transactions have taken place."

The first you'll learn of the attack is your bank refusing you money, or a paper statement showing you that cyber criminals have been draining money out of your account.

With hi-tech cyber attacks such as SpyEye, there are few visible signs that anything is wrong.

There are defences, though - ensure your browser is up to date, manually updating it if necessary.

You should also ensure that the 'anti-phishing' option is switched to 'on' in Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer, which will check for 'blacklisted' websites and prevent your browser being directed to the 'fake' version that delivers your bank statement.

How to Enable Anti-Phishing on your browser:

Internet Explorer:

1. Click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab
2. Scroll Down to Phishing Filter and select the "Turn on automatic website checking" option

Firefox:
1. Click on Tools > Options > Security
2. Tick the "Block reported attack sites" option
3. Tick the "Block reported web forgeries" option

Chrome:
1. Click on the Wrench icon > Options > Under The Hood > Privacy > Tick the "Enable phishing and malware protection" option

Safari
1. Settings > Safari
2. Turn "Fraud Warning" on

Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Now Available

iOS fans rejoice!!! @pod2g has created an untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for non-A5 devices! @pod2g recently decided to push the button on a release for all devices except the new iPhone4S and iPad2. @pod2g’s untether jailbreak for iOS 5.1 involves two separate exploits and a few other “tricks."

A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. They’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three).

CLICK HERE ON TO GET THE UNTETHERED JAILBREAK AND  HOW TO JAILBREAK YOUR iDEVICE.

The untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 works only on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G while @pod2g looks for a way to extend this to A5 devices because those devices cannot use geohot’s limera1n exploit to inject the untether, they require exploits above and beyond those used for this release. Keep following pod2g on twitter or his blog for any progress reports!

How To Delete Drunkgirlroom, Funroom, Love2showoff, KinkyChat From Your Hotmail (Windows Live Mail)

One of my colleagues' Hotmail account was previously hacked. The account was then restored and wanted to let his contacts know that they can again send email to the restored Hotmail account. He noticed that Drunkgirlroom, Funroom, Love2showoff, KinkyChat were included in the contacts list. He was sure he did not add these contacts and could not find them in the contacts list so he could delete them.

If you're facing the same issue, this is actually a pending Group Network Invitation. To delete Drunkgirlroom, Funroom, Love2showoff, KinkyChat and others from your Hotmail (Windows Live Mail) account, you need to decline the Invitation by following these steps:

1. Login to Hotmail (Windows Live Mail)
2. Click Contacts.
3. Click View invitations.
4. Click on Groups.
5. Click No, thanks.
