HP Slate 500 Tablet Now Availabe at $799

Just a couple of days ago, Verizon announced the price for the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The holiday season is nearing so it's simply the time to announce prices for new stuff. Hewlett-Packard also recently announced the availability and price of the HP Slate 500.

The HP Slate 500 which is targeted at businesses and comes with an 8.9-inch screen and running on Microsoft Windows 7 Professional OS will cost US$799. It is immediately available in the US for now through HP's website and channel partners.

Again, the price tag seems unreasonable high compared to Apple's iPad and even Samsung's Galaxy Tab although HP could argue that the HP Slate 500 runs a full operating system in Windows 7 rather than ported smart phone OS'.

HP also plans to release a separate tablet for consumers with the WebOS mobile software, which they acquired Palm a while back. The WebOS tablet, which is yet to be named, will be designed for activities like surfing the Web, watching movies, playing games and reading e-books, HP has said. It will be released in 2011, an HP spokesman said.
