How To Connect Your Laptop To Globe Telecom's Super Surf Internet Using Your Nokia 3G Phone

If you're in the Philippines and in need of a quick Internet connection to check on some important e-mails, update blog posts or just to log-in on Facebook, for fifty-five Pesos (Php55.00), here is how to connect to the Internet via a Nokia 3G-enabled phone with a Globe sim.

1. Register for Globe's Super Surf by typing SUPERSURF50 and send to 8888. This is good for a one-day unlimited Internet access. (If you want five days of unlimited Internet access, type SUPERSURF220 and send to 8888.) You need to have at least five Pesos (Php5.00) remaining balance for Supersurf to continue working.

Before proceeding, check if you have Globe's GPRS settings. If you don't have it, type GO (i.e. GO NOKIA5800) and send to 2951.

Check also if you have Nokia's Ovi Suite installed, if not then I hope you still have your Ovi CD installer on hand.

2. Connect your 3G phone to your Laptop or PC.

Once connected to the PC, your 3G phone acts as a modem connecting you to the Internet. You can either choose cable or Bluetooth. I used Bluetooth for a wireless connection, meaning I can place the phone in a location where the phone can effectively find and connect to the 3G network. 3G Internet speeds depends on how near the mobile is to a cell site. I had 768kbps according to speedtest.net which was more than ok for posting this article.

3. How to connect to the Internet.

On the right side of the Ovi Suite (or on the Tools menu), click on "Connect to internet." On first-use, Select "Use manual settings" at the next menu and type http.globe.com.ph as the Access point.

That's it! Click "Connect" and begin surfing.

It is also possible to connect to the Internet through other 3G-enabled mobiles like the iPhone and Android devices. For the settings on these devices, call the Globe Customer Service for free at 211.
